Carousel shelving provides ease-of-access and compact storage while drastically reducing the floor footprint required to store your pharmacy inventory. Carousels provide benefits in accuracy, floor space, and security.

Improving Accuracy

PharMax™ uses a "pick by location" or "pick by light" system. Instead of walking the shelves lookging for a drug, PharMax™ directs where to find the drug. You no longer have to remember if its stored under "T" for "Tylenol" or under "A" for "Acetaminophen". This also reduces the time needed to locate the right drug. In addition, carousels provide visual indicators to identify the location of a drug.

Saving Space

Carousels are automated, bringing the shelf to you. Because of this, no shelf is too high and no shelf is too low. Carousels typically reach the ceiling, but can be extended into the ceiling or into the floor and can reach heights beyond 30'. With their visual indicators, you no longer need easy visibility of the drugs; shelves in a carousel are tightly packed to maximize storage space.

A pharmacy typical 150-bed hospital can easily fit 90% of their inventory into a carousel measuring 12' wide by 6' deep.

Improving Security

In traditional shelving, drugs are sorted by name which often places look-alike and sound-alike drugs adjacent on the shelf. Also, drugs with a high street value are easy to locate. Due to the PharMax™ "pick by location" system and the carousel's visual indicators and automation, you no longer need to worry about where your drugs are on the shelves. The carousel also limits the number of shelves that are accessible at any given time. (A carousel can only spin to one shelf at a time.) This further restricts access to other drugs while at the same time improving the access to the drug required to fill the current order.
